Malaga have been left somewhat bemused by reports that Antoñito Cordero is set to join Newcastle United, with the Spanish club yet to be contacted over it.
That’s according to AS, who say the news has been ‘set up as a bomb’ in Malaga, particularly as they currently find themselves in a ‘serious results crisis’.
Reports today have indicated that Cordero is set to move to Newcastle this summer, with the deal agreed and the Magpies beating Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature.
AS, though, report that Malaga have no official knowledge of this transfer because ‘no one from the player’s entourage has contacted the club’. This is either Pini Zahavi’s agency or the player’s family.
They had assumed that this would have happened if a move to Newcastle was as imminent as has been suggested, but it hasn’t as yet. They accept that Cordero is likely to go after the player insisted he wouldn’t be signing a new deal at the club, but they’ve had no word of it as yet.
The Spanish club can feel a little aggrieved, particularly when Cordero has already been mocked up in a Newcastle shirt, and the player recently put in a ‘deplorable’ performance against Huesca.
That was very much a display of a player ‘with his head elsewhere’ and that is apparently Newcastle, even though Malaga have not received any information themselves on that front.
