Celtic’s Luis Palma has been backed to continue rising and perhaps even end up in a bigger league than Scotland sooner rather than later.
That’s according to his former manager Germán ‘Mono’ Burgos, who believes the Celtic man has everything in his locker to keep rising in the game.
Palma joined Celtic from Aris Thessaloniki in a €4.75m deal this summer and has been slowly establishing himself under Brendan Rodgers since that point.
He’s managed three goals and one assist in seven game so far, with his latest arguably the most high profile of the lot as he bagged a goal in the 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
The hope is that the 23-year-old will build on that and continue to rise at Celtic Park, establishing himself as a key player for Celtic in the years to come.
That is certainly more than plausible, with Celtic long having been a club where players can establish themselves in Europe and secure big moves in future.
Burgos doesn’t want to speculate on that front but did insist that his former player was good enough to go as high in the game as he wants.
“I have seen him better than how I him it at Aris,” he said.
“He has been evolving and has understood that one needs to be professional because it is not enough to just play well. You have to live to play and play to live.
“I told Luis that he is going to be whatever he wants to be, he has no ceiling despite his young age. When the player sees a coach who supports him and gives him continuity, he is eternally grateful and that is what is happening with Luis.
“Good players can stand out in all leagues and in the current league it is very important. What happens is that they go up from there, but Scotland is an important league.”
