Newcastle United were unable to take Lucas Paquetá in January since he wasn’t in favour of leaving Lyon midway through the season.
The Magpies have maintained their interest in the 24-year-old. Last week, But! Football Club reported they will ‘try to convince’ him to join them this summer.
It was also explained Newcastle United are hoping their ‘seduction operation will bear fruit’.
Le10 Sport now state the Tyneside club ‘offered €40m’ for the former AC Milan in January and were also willing to offer him a salary, which was 2.5 times more than what he is earning at Lyon.
Although the Brazilian turned down the chance to leave the Ligue 1 side at the start of this year, the ‘trend is changing’ now. The player is in ‘full reflection on his future’, with a focus on finding new opportunities that will be presented to him elsewhere.
One of the reasons behind this is Paquetá feels a ‘little more isolated’ inside the dressing room after Bruno Guimarães left Lyon for Newcastle in January. He was ‘affected’ by his compatriot’s exit earlier this year.
Therefore, the South American’s ‘determination to continue’ at the club is ‘no longer as strong’ as it was.
Le10 doesn’t mention any of the clubs that are interested in him, but Tutto Juve provides more update on this. The latter name Eddie Howe’s side and Juventus as his suitors.
It’s said Newcastle United ‘would be willing to put more than €60m on the table’ to secure Paquetá’s services this summer. Juventus, however, would not be able to carry out a deal for him under these conditions.
