Borussia Dortmund will be without Julian Ryerson for the Champions League clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
That’s according to Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger, who took to X [formerly Twitter] to reveal the 25-year-old has called in sick.
Edin Terzić has used the defender mainly as a right-back and also deployed him on the left side of the defence this season. He’s scored two goals from nine games, which is worthy of attention.
WAZ now state the Dortmund players have already reached the airport for their trip to England to face Newcastle and Ryerson will not be flying with the squad.
This was confirmed by BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who has also revealed the Norway international remains the only absentee to face Eddie Howe’s side.
“Unfortunately, Julian Ryerson is out, he called in sick, otherwise we are complete,” he said.
In Ryerson’s absence, Terzić has Ramy Bensebaini for the left-back position, and can pick Marius Wolf for the right-back slot against the Magpies.
Newcastle are currently leading the group with four points while the Bundesliga side are bottom with a point from two games. A defeat for Dortmund on Wednesday could dent their chances of progressing to the next round of the European competition.
