Newcastle United are interested in Antwerp midfielder Mahamadou Doumbia and have made him a priority target.

That’s according to Africa Foot, who report that the Magpies are very interested in the 21-year-old, who has a release clause set at €20m.

According to their information, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is said to be a great admirers of the Malian international, whose performances for Antwerp have aroused interest around Europe.

Newcastle have contacted the player’s representatives regarding a possible transfer this summer. They’re not the first side to be linked with a move.

Juventus, Napoli, Sevilla as well as Everton, Brighton, Marseille, Strasbourg, Fenerbahçe, and Galatasaray have all been credited with a move in the last few months. Africa Foot have reported on several of the Premier League sides without any progressing as of yet.

The midfielder has been likened to Manchester City icon Yaya Toure, with the website describing him as possessing ‘impressive technical ability, exceptional projection, and a powerful shot’.

It is perhaps that which has now attracted Newcastle, although how willing they are to pay that €20m release clause in order to sign him remains to be seen.
