During the last summer window, Juventus were keen to see the back of Adrien Rabiot. At one point, there was even talk of the midfielder being available on a free transfer, or at least for a very low transfer fee.
A deal was reportedly agreed with Manchester United, only for the transfer to collapse due to wage demands. Since then, Rabiot has been a regular for Juventus and is a starter for France at the World Cup.
Given the midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season, transfer rumours have continued. Newcastle United are one of the clubs to be repeatedly linked, and there’s now suggestions their interest is more than just passing.
Gazzetta dello Sport report, via Il Bianconero, that Newcastle United are ‘above all’ in the transfer race. Chelsea and Liverpool are also pushed forward, with the report edging Eddie Howe’s side ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Rabiot is going to want high wages, and despite the claims from Italy, Newcastle may not be keen to hand such a big contract out, especially for a player who will be 28-years-old at the time and so have a restricted sell-on potential.
