On Tuesday, Corriere dello Sport reported Newcastle United have initiated contact for AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw.
The newspaper noted that after the Magpies were interested last year in the German, who has three national caps all coming in 2023, they are back in the picture for his signing.

The famous old Italian newspaper claims Newcastle United have made an initial offer worth €30m for Thiaw, but this hasn’t been accepted by the Italian giants.
Even though it’s seen as a ‘significant offer’, new manager Max Allegri is interested in keeping Thiaw at the Rossoneri due to his versatility and suitability for a back-three system. As result, the move ‘fell through’, but it’s made clear Newcastle United could return with a higher offer.
Newcastle United have not lost confidence in the chase yet as they can table a new bid for the defender in the next few hours.
Earlier this summer an offer from Como was accepted for the 23-year-old, who rejected the move, so there’s obviously a willingness to sell.
That figure of a €35m asking price is being reported by multiple Italian outlets, and it would appear that’s what Newcastle United are being asked for.
Still, it feels on the high side, especially after reports around the Como offer put it at €25m.
Therefore, something doesn’t feel right on this one.
