Following the recent links between Newcastle United and Memphis Depay, the Catalan media now claims the Magpies are willing to pay to get a deal done.

According to Mundo Deportivo, as Barcelona prepare to sell the forward just six months before the end of his contract, the Premier League side offer €20m for the transfer.

The outlet points out this would be a great scenario for the Catalans, who’d make a decent profit with a player who could soon walk away for free, as there’s no agreement for a new deal.

Newcastle’s offer, however, doesn’t guarantee his arrival at the St. James’ Park. Mundo Deportivo says the player doesn’t want to move now, as he’d rather wait for June and decide his future ‘more calmly’ and fight for a bigger salary.

To convince Depay to leave, Barcelona reportedly would accept to split part of the €20m fee with the player himself, although they’d still need to negotiate that with him.

We must say that Newcastle have recently been included in countless exaggerated rumours, and paying that amount for a player who’ll soon be a free agent also looks like one of them.

It’s recently been claimed that Depay was offered to the Magpies and would indeed rather move for free in the summer. So that’s a pretty comfortable position for the English club to find a bargain with Barcelona, with no need for such a high bid.
