Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães is currently with the Brazilian national team, while in preparation for the Copa América.
The squad is complete now that the Real Madrid players, who’d been having some extra time off following the Champions League title, joined the squad yesterday.
Guimarães was interviewed by TNT Sports, and asked whether his national teammate Vinícius Júnior deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
The Newcastle star then showed full support for his teammate, claiming he’s the best player in the world right now, and the Copa América will help him prove that.
“I believe it could be fundamental, I believe that from my point of view Vini has to be [chosen], no matter what happens. But I’m not the one who votes, I’m not the one who does these things, so I believe it could weigh on him. We’re going to do our best here to help Vini too because he’s a kid who deserves it a lot and for me he’s already the best in the world,” said Bruno Guimarães.
Brazil have a couple of friendlies against Mexico and United States before the star of Copa América. In the tournament’s group stage, they face Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia.
Bruno Guimarães’ interview with TNT Sports ended up being quite interesting. The player talked about transfer rumours, insisting he’s completely happy at Newcastle, and even teased with the possibility of being the Magpies’ captain at some stage next season. The midfielder should fight for a starting place in Brazil’s team in the upcoming friendlies.
