Javier Manquillo is ready to complete his transfer out of Newcastle United, according to claims from Spain.
Marca writes that the player is close to signing for Celta Vigo, who could confirm the transfer in the ‘next few hours’.
It was former Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez who reportedly asked for the signing, after managing Manquillo in England between 2017 and 2019.
The 29-year-old is already in Spain, having arrived in Vigo on Thursday, and the transfer is set to be made official on Friday.
Celta are apparently not paying Newcastle for the transfer, as the move depends on the termination of his contract with the Magpies.
Manquillo’s contract with the Premier League club would expire at the end of the season, and since he wasn’t used for a single minute since the summer, it’s no surprise to see them letting him go for free just a few months before the end of his deal.
The fullback joined Newcastle in a €5m deal from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2017. In his time at the club, he made 110 appearances, with one goal and seven assists.
