As Newcastle United continue to be pointed out as one of the contenders to sign Ousmane Diomande, the Portuguese media shares an update on that pursuit.
Newspaper A Bola features a story claiming several clubs have sent scouts to watch the Sporting defender playing in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Newcastle are said to be one of those sides. It’s said the Magpies have an emissary analysing the centre-back’s performances while representing Ivory Coast.
The interested clubs know how ‘impossible’ it’d be to take Diomande from Sporting this month, and now gather reports ahead of a potential summer move.
Only triggering the defender’s €80m release clause would take him away from the Lions right now, as they’re completely focused on winning the league. A different scenario is expected in the summer, though, so those sides are getting prepared for a definitive coup.
Diomande isn’t the only Sporting defender who Newcastle are said to be interested in, as his partner Gonçalo Inácio is also thought to be a target. So it’s very important for the Magpies to know which of them they should go for.
