Newcastle United’s interest in Sporting centre-back Gonçalo Inácio is today highlighted by the Portuguese media.

The Lions have just signed defender Rafael Silva, who arrives from Leixões, and even though he’s supposed to strengthen the squad, many see that as a move eyeing a winter exit.

Newspaper Record say the signing accelerates Gonçalo Inácio’s transfer to the Premier League, and that’s where Newcastle get a mention.

Recent reports from the English media have been saying that Liverpool are keen on the 22-year-old, but A Bola sounds like it’s the Magpies who lead the race.

The newspaper writes it’s Newcastle who are ‘doing the maths’ to advance for the signing.

Inácio is protected by a €60m release clause, and as repeatedly reported by the Portuguese media, Sporting aren’t letting him leave for less than that. But those figures aren’t expected to stop his departure, as even in the middle of the season, Premier League clubs are expected to come for him.

Today, we saw A Bola claiming it’s Arsenal who lead the race, but Record sound quite sure it’s Newcastle who are best positioned.
