Newcastle United are ‘insisting’ on a move for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw this summer and using agents to make the Italians aware of their intentions.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport, who both cover the situation today as Newcastle continue to be linked with the defender.
Corriere report that the Premier League has its attention on several Milan players at this moment in time and Thiaw is one of them.
Newcastle are ‘insisting’ on getting a deal done for him and while an official, written offer has not yet arrived, Newcastle have made their desires clear via the player’s agents.
Milan have set a €40m asking price on the defender but there has been no indication from Newcastle about whether they will pay or would be willing to pay such a figure.
Gazzetta, meanwhile, report that there is every chance Milan could now decide to sell Thiaw after wrapping up a deal for Strahinja Pavlovic.
Any deal for him would depend on an offer arriving from the Premier League but Newcastle are ‘targeting’ the defender and seemingly ready to show up at Milan’s door with a ‘heavy load’.
They paid €80m for Sandro Tonali last summer and the belief now is that they could pay half of that to secure Thiaw. That is at least the minimum figure needed to convince Milan, who have made it clear they have no need to sell.
The whole situation is dependent on Newcastle actually making a move, which is yet to happen but is something they’re hinting they’ll do before long.
