Friday’s edition of Corrriere dello Sport has an article on the future of Alessandro Buongiorno, and Newcastle United are brought into the transfer picture.
Napoli are keen on signing the central defender but they’re struggling to get to a financial level which will please his current club Torino.
According to the report, the Naples club have offered €35m including bonuses, but this isn’t enough for Torino. They’re said to be holding out for €45m, and interest from Newcastle United may help in that regard.
Corriere dello Sport report the Magpies have initiated contact and worked to find out ‘some information’ about pursuing the 25-year-old this summer.
Often, we’d put this down to Newcastle’s name simply being used to try and pressure Napoli into offering more money, but crucially Buongiorno is represented by the same agents as Sandro Tonali.
One would assume that is who the contact was made with.
That adds a little intrigue to the situation and it’s certainly something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
