São Paulo’s William Gomes has ended up on Newcastle United’s transfer radar.
The Brazilian club initially signed the 18-year-old for their academy in 2021 and promoted him to their first team last year. The attacking midfielder has so far made 15 appearances for São Paulo, scoring two goals in the process.
His performances have seen Newcastle take notice, according to Globo Esporte.
Eddie Howe’s side have included the youngster in their target list. It’s claimed the South American club’s board are ‘aware of the interest’ shown by the Magpies in Gomes.
The report further adds there’s been informal talks between the representatives of São Paulo and Newcastle for the teenager. At this moment in time, the Premier League side haven’t tabled an offer.
Back in August, Gomes extended his deal until December 2028, and the outlet claims it includes a €120m release clause for clubs outside Brazil.
Globo state the Brazilian could be São Paulo’s ‘important sale’ next year. Gomes hasn’t played much for the senior team and Transfemarkt value him at €5m. Taking these factors into account, Newcastle are unlikely to spend a lot on him.
