Newcastle United hero Norberto Solano has revealed he is waiting to hear back from the club ahead of taking up a job with their U16s.
Infobae cover comments from the former Peruvian winger today as he revealed he’s waiting for an answer from Newcastle on a potential return to St James’ Park.
They explain that Solano currently finds himself out of work in coaching after leaving Swedish second division side AFC Eskilstuna in October last year.
They are one of several roles he’s held since retiring in 2012, having also been an assistant manager at Benfield FC, manager at Universitario and Jose Galvez, then assistant manager with Peru before leading their U21 side as manager too.
He’s been looking for a new role since leaving the Swedish side last year and at the end of February admitted he had spoken to Newcastle about a potential return there.
He was recently inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame and seemingly took the opportunity to speak to them about potentially moving back to the North East in a coaching role in some capacity.
At the time he stated he’d spoken about a coaching role, and it seems it may have progressed, with him now claiming he’s waiting to hear back from Newcastle.
“In Peru, I am honest, I have worked in the national team, I am a coach, but it is complicated, it is difficult,” he said.
“They stayed with a group of national coaches that they direct. On the other hand, our class, I’m talking about Flavio Maestri, Paul Cominges, among others, finds it difficult.
“You have to wait, if someone dares to make an offer, it will be time to analyse it. For now, it seems that I will work with the Newcastle sub-16, I am waiting for a response.”
