Newcastle United’s interest in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been reported in both England and Spain.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old insisted his future should be resolved soon, amid interest from Newcastle.

Journalist Nacho Sanchis took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state Newcastle have already met with the La Liga side and are ready to offer around €25m plus bonuses.

This doesn’t please Valencia, who have informed Eddie Howe’s side that they need €35m to sanction the Georgia international’s sale. Sanchis questions whether the Magpies will meet the requested fee or look at other options.

Even though Mamardashvili said there should be clarity on his future soon, the journalist claims this is unlikely to happen unless Newcastle make an improved offer.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Dimitrievski Stoles is set to join the Spanish club on a free transfer and hopes to become the Georgian’s successor. If the latter were to leave, Valencia will also look to sign another goalkeeper on a cheap deal.

In another post on X, Sanchis says Newcastle can sign Mamardashvili quickly if they raise their offer.

If they were to return with an improved bid, say in August, it may be too late for Los Ches to bring in a goalkeeper on the cheap. Valencia could then be left with only Dimitrievski and Jaume Doménech as their two stoppers, and this is the scenario they want to avoid.

In other words, the situation around the stoppers at Valencia is complex and the drama can be avoided if Newcastle were to quickly raise their offer by €10m for the Georgian.

Despite all of that, €5m would probably do it.
