Newcastle United’s interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili is being pushed by the Spanish media.
Marca features a story claiming the Magpies have ‘positioned themselves’ to land the Valencia goalkeeper in the summer.
It’s said Newcastle have Mamardashvili as their ‘number one’ target to reinforce their squad, feeling they need to improve that position in the summer.
Valencia know the goalkeeper is very much wanted, and since they want sales before making summer signings, it seems they’re already getting prepared for his departure.
Marca claim that the La Liga side have already made it known they can start negotiating from €40m. The outlet highlights that Newcastle have ‘no financial problems’, making it clear the Magpies would have no difficulty paying that amount.
However, they seem completely ignorant of the financial restrictions imposed by the Premier League, and €40m seems somewhat fanciful at this stage. Marca make clear that Valencia need sales and therefore it looks like a deal could be done at a lower amount.
The Magpies’ interest in Mamardashvili was reported at the start of the month, when it was said that they had been scouting the goalkeeper and made contact to learn the conditions of a transfer. So this is a story that is gaining strength in the Spanish media, and we should soon get to know if they’re placing an offer.
