Over the course of the January transfer window, and even a bit before, Newcastle United had been touted as being interested in Matías Soulé, owned by Juventus but loaned at Frosinone.
The young Argentine has been having a tremendous campaign with the small Serie A club, which caught the attention of a number of clubs, including the Magpies.
Talk of a January move from Newcastle was mentioned by the media, but both Juventus and Frosinone assured the player wouldn’t be going anywhere, but Gazzetta dello Sport make it clear that will be different in the summer.
Eddie Howe’s side are mentioned once more as an interested party by the newspaper, recalling that Al-Ittihad tried with a €30m bid in the last transfer window, but Soulé ‘resisted the temptation’.
That €30m price is said to be ‘the starting point’ for English clubs, like Newcastle, for talks in the summer, but the belief is that the fee is ‘destined to rise up to €35m with bonuses’.
Therefore, the Magpies have been told where Juventus stand when it comes to the young winger, who has an impressive 10 goals and two assists in 24 appearances for Frosinone since the start of the campaign.
