Newcastle United are chasing UD Almería’s Marc Pubill this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Bologna’s Emil Holm recently suffered an injury in training and he’s set to spend a long spell on the sidelines. That’s forced them to look for a new right-back and this is where Pubill fits in.
The Serie A side have asked about the 21-year-old, but they aren’t alone as Newcastle and AS Roma are also interested in signing him.
Di Marzio adds the Giallorossi will have a meeting with the Spain U21 international’s agent on Thursday.
Kieran Trippier has been the first-choice right-back at the Tyneside club, but recent claims in the English press have said he could leave the Magpies this summer.
Pubill can be an option for Eddie Howe’s side, who would provide competition to the Serie A duo. Newcastle will have to make advances if they wish to secure his services.
Estadio Deportivo relay Di Marzio’s claim and then share their own updates on Almería’s stance on the fullback. They invested €5m to buy the youngster from Levante UD in August 2023.
His deal lasts until 2029, and the report says it includes a release clause, which is ‘at the not inconsiderable figure’ of €40m.
Almería were relegated from La Liga last season, and that would probably make it difficult for them to demand €40m from Newcastle or Pubill’s other interested parties.
