Newcastle United target Serhou Guirassy has rejected an offer from VfB Stuttgart to buy his release clause out as he is ‘ready for the next step’.
That’s according to BILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the striker has turned down the approach from his club as he is prepared to move on.
Guirassy has been heavily linked with a move away from VfB Stuttgart over the last month after a superb run of form in Germany that has seen him manage 18 goals and two assists in 14 games this season.
That’s seen a number of clubs lining up for a potential deal, particularly as he has a €17.5m release clause in his current deal, a figure which makes him a relative bargain.
Newcastle are one of those to have been linked on more than one occasion, with it believed they will look to add to Eddie Howe’s injury hit squad in the January transfer window.
Indeed, reports have made it clear they would be more than comfortable paying his clause to do so, much like his other suitors, although a report earlier today made it clear they may have to pay more than the heavily publicised €17.5m figure anyway.
Falk now provides an update on the situation and says that Stuttgart have tried to get themselves out of the situation by offering to buy the striker’s release clause from him.
Serhou Guirassy (27) has rejected a new offer of his Club. VfB Stuttgart tried to buy his Release clause (€17,5 Mio) from him. Guirassy is ready for the next step. Interested Clubs: Manchester United, Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund @ManUtd @NUFC @BVB

That, though, has been ‘rejected’ by the player and his environment, with it made clear that Guirassy ‘is ready for the next step’.
That would presumably be a transfer to another club and Falk throws names into the mix on that front, saying Newcastle, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are the ‘interested clubs’.
Whether that means he ends up at St James Park remains to be seen but this decision appears to be the first step towards a move in January, so the race should now start heating up.
