Over the past month or so, there have been claims that, despite signing Nick Pope, Newcastle United are interested in Diogo Costa.

The Portuguese goalkeeper is a key player at Porto, and is currently protected by a €60m release clause, which many feel is a bit low for his talent.

After all, he is now the undisputed number one at both club and international level, and there is a firm belief he will head to greener pastures soon enough.

Newcastle could provide him that if they ever decide to move on from Nick Pope, and previous reports from a month ago have suggested they continue to pay attention to him.

Not only that, but he could be a tempting target for January, and journalist Bruno Andrade took to Twitter to praise the player.

He said that ‘we need to talk about Diogo Costa’, who was a gamble at first in Porto, but has turned into a ‘winning’ one.

The player is ‘now among the best goalkeepers in the world’, but he will never be ‘the most expensive ever’ due to that aforementioned release clause.

It’s fair to say that €60m, if Newcastle want to trigger it, shouldn’t stand in the way of the Magpies, but they won’t be the only ones keen on him at this rate, with Manchester United previously linked as well.
