Towards the end of last season, reports coming out of the Spanish press had talked about Newcastle United interest in Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen. The Magpies weren’t able to take the defender away from the Camp Nou in the last window.
Fast forward to November and today’s Sport has a report on Newcastle’s desire to sign the 27-year-old.
Christensen was at Chelsea for a decade before joining the La Liga side on a free transfer in 2022. The centre-back’s experience in the Premier League and his form last season for Barca made a few English clubs consider signing him in the summer.
This includes Eddie Howe’s side and the newspaper states they are ‘still very interested’ in securing the 27-year-old’s services.
Sport add the Tyneside club are ‘very attentive’ to the Denmark international, but they would find it difficult to take him away from the Catalan club. That’s because neither the Blaugrana nor the player are considering the possibility of parting ways.
Sport say he’s the ‘most reliable centre-back’ under Xavi Hernández. Irrespective of the interest shown by Newcastle and other Premier League sides, the report insists Barcelona have no plans to part ways with the Dane in January.
Howe’s side would have to find a way to convince Christensen, if they were to stand a chance to acquire his signature. He has made 12 appearances this season, and was left on the bench in Barca’s latest win over Real Sociedad.
