Following the news that Joelinton was feared to have suffered a season-ending injury, Newcastle United appeared to get a bit more active on the market.

The Brazilian being out leaves them without him and Sandro Tonali for the rest of the campaign, meaning Eddie Howe’s squad is a bit thin in the middle.

Regarding Joelinton, he is expected to have surgery on his groin, and Florian Plettenberg took to X, formerly Twitter, to provide some more details about the upcoming operation.

He explained that the Newcastle midfielder will have his procedure ‘tomorrow in Barcelona’, and is likely to be out ‘until the end of April’.

On top of that, he also adds that, despite becoming an integral part of Eddie Howe’s plans at St James’ Park, there is a fear he might need to be sold in the summer.

That’s because there is a ‘clear tendency’ in the 27-year-old’s future, and that is he ‘won’t extend his contract’ beyond its current end date of 2025.

Therefore, if Newcastle want to make some money back on him, they will need to sell him in the summer, or, worst case scenario, next January.

As to why a German journalist would know so much about a Brazilian midfielder in the Premier League, it’s worth recalling that Joelinton used to play for Hoffenheim before heading to England in a €44m deal.
