Newcastle United are sending a scout to Antwerp’s clash with Olympiacos in the Europa League on Thursday to watch midfielder Aguibou Camara.
That’s according to Sporttime journalist Giannis Chorianopolous, who puts the Magpies among a host of clubs sending representatives to watch the 20-year-old.
Camara is one of the rising stars of the current Olympiacos squad, having established himself as a key player despite his youth since arriving from Lille’s B team in July this year.
He’s been a regular since then, with five goals and two assists in 20 games and a series of impressive performances earning him plenty of admirers.
Indeed, a superb display against Fenerbahce back in October was believed to have caught the attention of a scout from Liverpool, with the Reds keeping an eye on him since.
They’re not the only Premier League side interested, though, with reports in England stating that Newcastle and Leicester are also keen on Camara and watching his development closely.
That certainly seems to be the case, at least for Newcastle, with Chorianopolous reporting that they’re sending a scout to watch how Camara performs in the clash with Antwerp.
Olympiacos need a win in that game and results elsewhere to go their way if they are to top the group, and Camara will need to be at the top of his game for that to happen.
Eddie Howe’s side aren’t the only ones who’ll be watching, though, with the Reds also joining them and Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Fiorentina all sending scouts.
It’s a real opportunity for the attacking midfielder to make a point then, with Newcastle looking likely to face stern competition if he does.
