Newcastle United are willing to pay €55m to sign Marc Andre Ter Stegen from Barcelona but will have to convince the German to make the move.

That’s according to El Nacional, who say the figure could be welcomed by Barcelona for their number one.

They report that Newcastle are preparing for a ‘busy winter transfer window’ and want to make ‘several top signings’ across the month.

They will have more than enough money to do so and one of their first targets could be Ter Stegen.

According to El Nacional, Newcastle are keen to improve their goalkeeper position and the German keeper is the ‘chosen one’ to do it.

He is still considered one of the best in the world despite some rocky performances of late and that was demonstrated in the recent win over Dynami Kiev.

He’s an undisputed key player for Barcelona but that does not mean his transfer is ‘off the table‘ either.

Joan Laporta values the goalkeeper highly but his sale would leave a ‘large amount of money’ in the coffers.

That’s because Newcastle are ‘ready to pay’ €55m to secure his services and have already ‘tempted’ Barcelona into negotiations.

It’s still a matter of waiting to see if the La Liga will open them but if they are, Newcastle have €55m waiting to spend, and are willing to go higher if need be.

That’s because they have an ‘unlimited budget’ and want Ter Stgen ‘at all costs’, but the ‘most complicated’ issue is convincing the player.

He is completely happy at the Nou Camp and has said that were he to leave, it would be to return to Germany. He has no intention of going anywhere, regardless of the money on offer.

Newcastle will try to get him to reconsider but that is ‘complicated’ given they’re currently in a relegation battle.
