Despite the purchase of Chris Wood, there is an insistence in Italy that Newcastle United still want to buy another striker, with Duván Zapata a big name on their list.
There was a spurt of articles last week, which appeared to have calmed down over the weekend, but it has now come back courtesy of Corriere Bergamo.
The newspaper explain that Newcastle ‘are ready to offer €40m’ for Zapata, who would instantly become a second physical presence up top for Eddie Howe alongside Chris Wood.
Corriere Bergamo do state ‘the dialogues are continuing’ between parties regarding the Colombian’s potential transfer to St James’ Park, but there are some doubts creeping in at Atalanta.
In fact, the Serie A side ‘are beginning to think that perhaps it’s not appropriate to give up their striker’, suggesting they are thinking twice about accepting any offer that comes their way for him this January transfer window.
That would be something of a blow for Newcastle if that was the case, but we’ll have to wait and see, because we all know money talks, and the Magpies have a lot of it.
