Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser was restricted to just over 300 minutes of action from eight games last season and his game time was limited due to injuries and poor form.
The winger hasn’t made an appearance for the Magpies since last October and has now emerged as a surprise target for Empoli.
That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who states the Newcastle player is the new name on the Serie A side’s agenda.
He adds the Italian club like the 29-year-old, who ‘had problems’ with Eddie Howe last season.
Empoli want to open their door for the Scotland international and are keen to take him on a loan deal.
Di Marzio says their idea is to sign the former Bournemouth man on a free loan deal and with Newcastle paying 50% of his wages.
He makes no mention of whether the Premier League side are willing to agree to this formula. The journalist also doesn’t make it clear if the player is open to this move.
Recent claims in the UK had talked about Celtic’s interest in Fraser but this was dismissed by Brendan Rodgers.
With the attacker having problems with Howe, a move away from Newcastle, even if it’s on loan, seems like the best solution for him.
