Newcastle United are in the mix to sign AS Roma star Paulo Dybala.
Last summer, the Argentina international joined the Serie A side for free and signed a three-year deal. It includes a €20m release clause and the figure will be lowered to €12m for clubs outside of Italy, according to Calciomercato.
Their report’s title states the forward is at a crossroads of his career and the Premier League remains tempting, where Newcastle are looking at him.
Regarding his future, Dybala said: “The clause is a matter between my attorneys and the club, but I don’t know what will happen at the end of the season. And if I don’t know what’s going to happen with me, let alone the coach, you have to ask him.”
“I’d like to be coached by him because he’s one of the best and I’d like to win with him, but for now I’m only thinking about the match against Salzburg. I hope Roma play in the Champions League next season.”
The Champions League qualification and José Mourinho’s continuity at the club are the two conditions that need to be fulfilled for the 29-year-old to stay at Roma. In the event of the coach’s departure, it’s thought Dybala’s future would be away from the Italian side.
His release clause can be removed with an automatic renewal and that would see his wages increase from €4.5m to €6m per year. The player has to decide on this. If not, the clause is attractive to the likes of Newcastle.
Regarding the Magpies, it’s said they have ‘already shown first signs’ to sign Dybala after this season. That’s all the report says about Newcastle.
Roma could risk losing both Mourinho and the World Cup winner after this season.
