With not a lot to do now that football has been suspended for the foreseeable futures, footballers are a bit bored at home, meaning they are more willing to have a chat about their situation and their future.
Managing to grab hold of Achraf Lazaar, Italian journalist Nicolò Schira sat down with the Newcastle United loanee for a chat via Instagram, where they discussed many topics, including his past in Italy and what happened at St James’ Park for him to find himself currently loaned out to Cosenza in Serie B.
The left-back arrived from Palermo with a number of expectations, but it never really worked out for him, and he told Schira, relayed by TuttoB.com, that he probably should have taken the other option at his disposal, which was to head to Serie A.
He said: “In the summer of 2016, Fiorentina wanted me, but my dream as a kid was to play in England. It was Rafa Benitez, who had arrived from Real Madrid. He really wanted me and his pressing convinced me.
“There were great ambitions: there was talk of building a squad to win the Premier League in the space of a few years. It’s too bad he played me very little. In hindsight, Newcastle wasn’t the right choice, unfortunately”.
The player recently talked about his future with Lions de l’Atlas, explaining he would simply wait until the end of the season to sit down with the St James’ Park based club and ‘evaluate what’s best’ for both parties going forward.
Considering there appears to be very little intention from Steve Bruce and co. to use him going forward, an exit seems to be the likeliest outcome from that chat, in whichever way is the easiest one.
