Just before the weekend, it was being reported in Italy that Chelsea were open to the idea of letting Davide Zappacosta stay on loan at Roma for an extra season.

It wasn’t particularly surprising since the defender has barely played due to injury during the current campaign, and the Blues had nothing to gain from bringing him back and trying to sell him on the current market.

That’s why the idea of letting him stay in Italy for another year makes a lot of sense, and it’s something that’s already being discussed.

According to Corriere della Sera, Roma and Chelsea are ‘already at work to extend’ his loan over the next campaign, even if the player himself would like to be back this season, whenever football resumes, if it even does at all.

The newspaper, via their website, claim the whole thing is ‘close’, which we’re quite glad about because once it’s done, we can forget about the Italian defender for another year or so, much like the whole of the Stamford Bridge faithful.
