Newcastle United’s offer to Antoñito Cordero will have been ‘infinitely superior’ to what Malaga presented to him, and perhaps even Real Madrid and Barcelona.
That’s according to AS, who cover the youngster today and question why he would choose to move to Newcastle and not either of the Spanish giants.
Reports this week have made it clear that Cordero will be moving to Newcastle on a free in the summer and has rejected interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid to do so.
The move has caused plenty of frustration and anger at Malaga, where he’s been labelled a snake, because of the fact they will earn nothing from the move.
It’s been hinted that money was a deciding factor for Cordero, with it explained he’s set for a hefty signing bonus, massively increased wages and even a new deal with Adidas.
AS continue on that line today, stating that it is ‘clear’ that the proposal from Newcastle will have been ‘infinitely superior’ to what Malaga were able to offer. Kike Pérez, the Spanish club’s CEO, said it would have put him among the best paid in the squad.
They do also say that sporting wise Newcastle is more attractive, even more than Barcelona or Real Madrid as they can guarantee him minutes. Even if they send him on loan, as has been claimed will happen, it’ll be to the Eredivisie and not the lower down the Spanish divisions as with Barcelona.
Ajax are believed to be interested, and the Eredivisie is seen as a league where he can grown and form himself before returning to Newcastle. The Magpies previously did this with Yankuba Minteh before selling him to Brighton.
Thus, Newcastle are more attractive on two points, financially and sporting, and that’s why he’s chosen them according to AS.
