Newcastle United are among the clubs in the picture to sign Fenerbahçe’s İrfan Kahveci in the summer window, according to claims from Turkey.
The winger has starred for the Turkish club this season, scoring 18 goals and registering 12 assists from 45 games. His fine displays haven’t gone unnoticed and the Magpies have taken notice.
That’s according to Sözcü Gazetesi, who say Newcastle have joined Sevilla and Rennes in keeping close tabs on the 28-year-old.
His deal lasts until 2025 and Sözcü say the Yellow Canaries have no intention to part ways with their star.
Their plan is to renew Kahveci’s deal and if there’s no extension, they could be forced to sell him in the next window, in order to avoid losing him for free in 2025.
Recent claims have stated Sevilla have made a €20m bid to the Istanbul club, while Lazio are set to make an offer for him. This is relayed by Akşam, who then give their own take on this case.
The Turkey international has attracted the attention of the La Liga side, Newcastle and Lazio. It’s further claimed the latter two have made ‘official contact’, without making it clear if it was with Fenerbahçe, the player’s camp or both.
Kahveci has talked about his dream to “go to Europe from here [Fenerbahçe].” Akşam relay his comment and add that he’s ‘about to achieve his goal’ in the summer window.
