Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden was on loan at Norwich City last season, where he was forced to spend most of his time on the sidelines due to a knee problem.
Back in September, the Magpies allowed the defensive midfielder to join Standard Liège on loan and he featured in nine consecutive league games this season.
Since the last international break, the Newcastle owned player has been restricted to two minutes of action in the league and was left out of the squad for the last three matches.
Sudinfo state the 28-year-old isn’t 100% fit and suggest that’s the reason for his recent omission.
It’s claimed Hayden is still experiencing ‘discomfort in his knee’, forcing him, ‘from time to time’, to train away from the group and also cut short one or more sessions.
Eddie Howe’s side have an option to cut short the Englishman’s loan stay in Belgium next month. The report states they’ll only take this step if his game time is further restricted or if they find another solution.
The transfer to Standard Liège saw Hayden move away from his family/England for the first time in his career. Sudinfo say he had ‘expressed fears’ about this and also adapting to the new surroundings.
He’s been living at a hotel and the report adds the Newcastle man ‘will not be opposed’ to the idea of returning to England in January. It’s down to the Tyneside club to make a decision on the midfielder, whose deal at St James’ Park lasts until 2026.
