Newcastle United have become the latest club to join the race to sign Schalke’s Assan Ouédraogo.
The 17-year-old graduated from the second division German club’s academy and was promoted to their first team earlier in the season. He has two goals and two assists from 14 league games so far.
Sky Deutschland state Ouédraogo is being courted by several clubs in Germany and abroad, and Newcastle belong to the latter. These clubs are ‘hot’ for the midfielder.
Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, Newcastle, AS Roma and Atalanta are all interested in him. La Dea are going ‘full throttle’ to try and sign the Germany U17 international in the next window.
Ouédraogo’s deal lasts until 2027 and it’s claimed he ‘hasn’t yet turned down’ any clubs, including the possibility of staying at Schalke.
He’s focused on helping Schalke avoid relegation to the third division. They are 13th in the table, three points ahead of Kaiserslautern, who are in the 17th spot [the league has 18 teams].
Sky also add that Ouédraogo’s ‘decision is imminent’ and he’s set to provide better clarity on his future at the beginning of next month.
Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add Newcastle and Roma ‘are involved’ in the battle to sign the youngster. He adds Schalke are hopeful that he could continue at the club.
