Newcastle United are in the mix to sign Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez in the summer, according to La Razón in Mexico.
The Eredivisie side took the striker from Cruz Azul last summer. He has impressed in his debut season at the club, scoring 17 goals and registering three assists from 36 matches in all competitions.
Giménez’s form has not gone unnoticed at Newcastle as they have their eyes set on him.
After arriving at Feyenoord, it was suggested the Argentina-born Mexico international made a mistake of moving to Europe. He was also warned about the risk of losing his place in the national team for the World Cup.
Despite starring for the Dutch club, Gerardo Martino overlooked the 21-year-old for the World Cup. Diego Cocca has replaced Martino and he’s not yet the first-choice striker under the new El Tri manager.
Giménez’s rise at Feyenoord has resulted in Newcastle, along with Benfica and FC Porto, being ‘interested’ in acquiring his services.
It has also seen the attacker ‘double his valuation’ this season. He was valued at $4.3m last summer and his current valuation is set at $9.8m.
