Since the start of the last season, Mattia Destro has started in 21 league games for Bologna, which includes two starts this campaign.

Last season, the striker scored six goals, while he is yet to open his account this term, but that hasn’t stopped him drawing attention from other clubs as his contract with his current employer runs down in 2020.

According to Calciomercato, there are two clubs ‘interested’ in taking the 27-year-old out of the Serie A club and they are Sampdoria and Newcastle United.

The Italian outfit are ready to offer their own player Dawid Kownacki to Bologna as a part of the deal, while Rafael Benitez is also looking at the former AC Milan loanee to strengthen the Magpies attack.

Newcastle, who registered their first win in the league last weekend, have struggled to score as they have netted only on seven occasions in 11 matches, two of which came in their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.

With a two-horse ‘race’ for Destro, it should be seen whether the Tyneside club will be able to beat Sampdoria for the Italian player’s signing.
