PEC Zwolle defender Anselmo García MacNulty has explained what his future may be as the likes of Leeds United are linked with a move for him this summer.

The young defender has been speaking DS Media, relayed by Estadio Deportivo, about this season, his situation and what the future may hold for him.

The 21-year-old has been a regular for the Dutch side this season, with 29 appearances in the Eredivisie so far and 82% of the available minutes played in.

He’s featured predominantly as a left-back but can also play in both centre-back positions too, something which has not gone unnoticed.

Leeds are known to be one of his suitors, with a report at the end of last month indicating their interest and one on the 2nd of May backing that up, even stating that they could face competition from fellow Championship sides.

Leeds could be direct competitors to Real Betis, who are also on the hunt for a new left-back and could be tempted to bring MacNulty back after he left their youth sector in 2019 for a move to Wolfsburg.

He’s not focusing on that at the moment, though, and instead just enjoying being a regular and fulfilling his footballing dream.

“My dream was to be a footballer and play at the highest level,” he said.

“I don’t care that for that to happen I have to spend several years away from home. Of course it is a dream to play for Betis, but now I focus on what I do with Zwolle.

“Centre-back is where I have always played and where I feel most comfortable. But when they have needed me as a left back, I have played there. And I have improved in that position.

“I’m enjoying Zwolle, the people are nice here. And I can even understand Dutch a little, because it’s similar to German.”
