Newcastle United still haven’t made that bid for Gonçalo Ramos the Portuguese media had been speaking of, but that doesn’t mean the Magpies are forgotten in the race for the player.
The striker’s departure from Benfica this summer is a real scenario, as several local newspaper today feature stories about what could happen in the final weeks of the transfer window. Eddie Howe’s side continue to be named as a potential destination for the 21-year-old.
Record feature a story saying Ramos is struggling with an injury and, despite that, is still being a big help to the Eagles start of the season. The Portuguese newspaper names a few clubs who can’t forget about him, and it’s recalled that Newcastle already made an approach and continue to ‘prepare an offer’.
A Bola is another one naming the Magpies. They say Benfica officials have been under ‘pressure’ and will have to spend the coming weeks analysing whether to let their new star go or not.
Meanwhile, Jornal de Notícias, also name Newcastle as one of the contenders, and claim that despite Ramos’ importance for the Eagles, they are still open to analysing offers above €40m.
The striker has scored five goals so far this season, but with sales being crucial for Benfica’s finances every single year, they can’t ignore the chance of making huge profit with him.
