Ajax star Mohammed Kudus will be pushing for a move away from the club this summer, with Newcastle United circling.
That’s something his agent has confirmed today, insisting that he and his client believe now is the best time for him to depart the Netherlands.
Kudus has once again been one of the stars for Ajax this season, bagging 11 goals and three assists in 29 games in the league as well as impressing at the World Cup in Qatar.
That’s opened up the possibility of a departure again this summer, with a report in England yesterday stating that Newcastle are one of three teams in the Premier League keeping an eye on him.
Their interest had seemingly been piqued by the player’s desire to move on, with him having made it clear last summer and in subsequent interviews since how disappointed he was not to join Everton and move to England.
“I think it is best for both Ajax and Mohammed that he makes a transfer now. This is the right time,” Jennifer Mendelewitch told De Telegraaf, relayed by Voetbal Zone.
“What I can say is that after the World Cup and this season there is a lot of interest in Kudus.”
Whether Newcastle make their move remains to be seen, but it is certainly one which would make sense given the relative needs in their squad.
Eddie Howe’s side could do with a creative, goalscoring attacking midfielder like Kudus, hence why they have been so heavily linked with James Maddison for so long.
Kudus, at 22-years-old, is not only four years youngster than Maddison but also has Champions League experience, something which may be vital as the Magpies head into Europe’s top competition next season.
That doesn’t mean they will move, of course, but the midfielder is certainly keen on leaving Ajax, meaning the door is already halfway open if Newcastle wanted to walk through it.
