Newcastle United may need to step up their efforts to sign youngster Can Uzun, with Eintracht Frankfurt currently leading the race for his signature.
That’s according to journalist Kerry Hau, who says the German side currently have ‘the best chance’ of signing the rising talent from FC Nürnberg this summer.
Uzun is one of the rising young stars in German football and has earned that reputation thanks to an impressive season so far that has seen him bag ten goals and one assist in 18 games in the 2.Bundesliga, where he is yet to establish himself as a key player and has only featured in 61% of the available minutes so far.
His growing reputation has also earned him a growing list of admirers, with Newcastle brought into the picture at the end of the January transfer window.
Reports linking them with a potential move have been consistent from that point, with it made clear last week that Newcastle are chasing his signature but they were facing competition from Germany and other clubs in the Premier League.
They may want to step up their efforts, though, with Hau reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt have now jumped to the front of the queue.
“Eintracht Frankfurt has the best chance of signing top talent Can Uzun from 1. FC Nürnberg in the summer,” he said.
“But there is no final agreement yet. A total package of at least €10m euros is being discussed.”
