River Plate are waiting to approach Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron about a move in January but see him as a target worth making an attempt for.
That’s according to Soy del Millo, who report that the latest claims from England have sparked hope for the Argentine giants.
A report in England this week has stated that Almiron will be put up for sale by Newcastle in the January transfer window, with everyone involved thinking now is the ideal time for him to move on from St James Park.
That change of position ‘changes everything’ for Almiron, but also River Plate, who have been linked with a move for months.
He’s an ‘obsession’ for the club’s fans and there is now a feeling that a transfer can happen because Newcastle have opened the door.
River’s management, namely Jorge Brito and Marcelo Gallardo, believe that any deal will not be an easy one to make happen, but it is ‘worth making an attempt’ during January.
Everything is now in place for the first informal contacts between the various parties to take place and the Argentine side are ‘keeping a close eye’ on proceedings, waiting to contact the forward and assess the situation with him.
They’ll need Newcastle to play their part, particularly when it comes to a transfer fee, but their new openness to a sale means a move to River is very much a possibility after all.
