Miguel Almirón is set to leave Newcastle United for Atlanta United on a permanent move in the winter market.

On Tuesday, journalist César Luis Merlo reported the Magpies and Atlanta United reached a verbal agreement for the winger’s transfer. He also stated the two clubs were negotiating the final details of the operation.

Paraguay’s Monumental AM 1080 took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to bring the latest on the Newcastle player’s move to the MLS side.

Atlanta United have reached an agreement with Newcastle to sign the 30-year-old for $12m [£9.6m]. He will sign a four-year deal and will travel this week to carry out transfer formalities.

César Luis Merlo also took to X to back up this claim and share additional updates. The American side ‘bought the player’ from Eddie Howe’s side for $12m.

The journalist states Almirón will travel at the end of the week to sign a four-year deal with Atlanta United.

Merlo adds this is a ‘done deal’ and it looks like only the Paraguay international’s medical and official announcement is missing.

Almirón joined Newcastle from Atlanta United in January 2019 and is now edging closer towards returning to his former club.
