Brighton and Cruzeiro are moving closer in negotiations for Igor Julio. The Brazilian club is now preparing a second offer that edges much nearer to the Seagulls’ demands.
The defender’s future has looked uncertain in recent weeks following Brighton’s decision to open the door for a summer exit.
Cruzeiro emerged as the strongest Brazilian contender, saw an opening bid rejected, and have continued talks while competition from Europe remains in the background.
Now the numbers involved in the negotiations are becoming clearer.
Cruzeiro move closer to Brighton demands
According to ESPN Brazil, Cruzeiro are preparing to send a new proposal to Brighton by Friday.
The offer is expected to include around £4.3m (€5m) in fixed payments plus another £850k (€1m) tied to objectives and bonuses.
That structure matters because it moves Cruzeiro much closer to Brighton’s asking price of around £5.1m (€6m), which has remained the reference point throughout discussions.
The first proposal fell short of Brighton’s expectations, as we covered last week. The overall amount came in below the club’s valuation. Meanwhile, the payment conditions were also viewed as unfavourable by the English side.
Despite that rejection, negotiations never really slowed down. Cruzeiro remained optimistic behind the scenes. In addition, they immediately started working on an improved package.
Brighton chapter nearing its end
The broader feeling around Igor Julio’s future has not changed. The 28-year-old already knows Brighton are prepared to negotiate his departure this summer. Furthermore, recent developments continue to confirm the end of his spell at the club.
Cruzeiro still face competition from clubs elsewhere in Europe, but the Brazilian side are now pushing harder than anyone else to reach an agreement.
Igor Julio himself views a return to Brazil positively after nearly a decade abroad. He has played in Austria, Italy and England since leaving Brazil in 2016.
Now attention turns to Brighton’s response to the improved offer. The gap between the clubs has narrowed, the negotiations remain active, and the feeling around the defender’s future continues to point in the same direction.
