Last summer, Guido Rodríguez joined West Ham United on a free transfer, after spending four years at Real Betis.

The Argentina international featured regularly for West Ham before losing his place in the starting lineup. His situation worsened after Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui in January.

Rodríguez has played four games under Potter, and that includes just one appearance since January.

Earlier this month, we covered claims from Mexico that he wants to leave West Ham after this season. It was also stated his entourage are already at work to find a new club in the summer window.

River Plate are one of the clubs in the picture to sign the 30-year-old and TNT Sports in Argentina provide the latest.

He graduated from River Plate’s academy and spent two years with their first team before leaving them for Tijuana in 2016. They have qualified for June’s FIFA Club World Cup.

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is aware of the need to improve their squad for this tournament and identified the West Ham player as a target.

This information is provided by TNT Sports journalist Maximiliano Grillo, who states River Plate want to sign their former player. He adds their officials will start negotiations with the Hammers.

Rodríguez isn’t ruling out a return to River Plate in the next window. This will come as encouragement for the Argentine club, but the report states the negotiations to sign him won’t be easy, without providing any explanation.

Gallardo would try to seduce the West Ham man and whether River Plate can sign him needs to be seen.
