Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has revealed his side have started negotiations with Southampton over signing Carlos Alcaraz this summer.
On Friday, the Brazilian club presented their new signing, Michael, to the media.
Braz was also present and was asked about the latest reports about Flamengo’s interest in the Southampton midfielder. His comments are relayed by CNN Brasil.
On Friday, we covered claims from Brazil that Flamengo have restarted negotiations after Southampton lowered their request from €25m to €18m. It was also reported the Saints could get Victor Hugo as part of the deal.
According to CNN Brasil, Flamengo have made an offer for the 21-year-old Argentine. They also point out that it’s possible for Hugo to move in the opposite direction.
Braz has now confirmed that a Flamengo player could be a part of the operation, without specifically mentioning Hugo.
“Negotiations are ongoing. There are several situations, such as whether or not to include a player in this negotiation. A negotiation is ongoing. Flamengo want the player and understand that he can help us a lot,” he said.
Flamengo have until September 2nd [deadline day in Brazil] to sign the Southampton man. If they want to carry out a player-plus-cash deal, they’ll have to rush because the window in England will close next Friday.
