While Chelsea and Inter are already talking about Romelu Lukaku, there is another player the two clubs are discussing: Denzel Dumfries.

This is an idea that started a little while ago, and it’s made clear the two negotiations are separate, even if they involve the same teams.

That means Dumfries will not be part of any agreement for Lukaku, and vice-versa, and that’s something Gazzetta Dello Sport look at on Thursday.

They state ‘negotiations for the sale’ of the Dutchman ‘are also running’, and while ‘the two operations are not closely linked’, it kind of ‘is as if they were’.

That’s due to the fact that ‘the possibility of a Chelsea discount (for Lukaku) also passes through a possible external agreement’, but we are some way off that.

This is because the €45m ‘requested by Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are considered too many by Todd Boehly and company’.

In any case, Chelsea and Inter ‘seem willing to come together’, and ‘how much can be shaved off’ the fee for Lukaku and its final price ‘will depend on the success of the Dumfries deal’ and ‘will be understood in a very short time’.

It appears it’s all accelerating, but we could see some real movement in the Dumfries deal sooner rather than later.
