Since the FA announced that West Ham United star Lucas Paquetá was being investigated over illegal betting, the player has been out of the Brazil national team.
The midfielder had even been called up for some games at the time, and was cut out from that list. Now in the latest squad, he wasn’t even included, obviously for the same reason.
Brazil’s recent results have been poor, and we’ve seen people in the local media asking for Paquetá’s return. Now, according to Globo Esporte, that’s being studied by the CBF.
The outlet writes that the call-up of the West Ham player for the next international break is currently being discussed, as manager Fernando Diniz would like to have him in the squad.
This is described as a ‘delicate situation’, and the coach is set to have a meeting with CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues about that. Even though the chief isn’t used to intervening in call-up decisions, this is seen as a special case.
The main argument for Paquetá’s return is that he’s playing normally for West Ham during the investigations. Then there’s also the huge need for improvement at the national team, and he could probably help with that.
