Carlos Alcaraz may have just been loaned by Southampton to Juventus until the end of the season, but since his buying option stands at nearly €50m, that move obviously draws big attention from the Italian media.
The midfielder had his arrival at the Old Lady made official on the 31st of January, and so far, he has only made one appearance for them, as he was used in the final minutes of the league match against Inter Milan on the 4th of February. Since then, he’s been kept on the bench.
That’s why his transfer to Southampton is already being questioned by some people from the local press, and outlet TuttoJuve today features some quotes from Tony Damascelli, who spoke about to RadioRadio about Juventus’ form today.
Speaking about Alcaraz, the pundit suggests that Massimiliano Allegri may not have even had a say in the player coming, and that’s why he’s unlikely to get much playing time with the Serie A giants.
“Juventus’ season is in deficit both financially and technically because when a coach in the game he has to win makes those choices at the beginning, he makes you play one striker, by the way Milik, and with Chiesa 20 metres away, and then he brings in Iling Junior, Cerri and Nicolussi Caviglia, keeping then on the bench this mysterious object called Alcaraz, who he doesn’t see…”
“I can tell, he doesn’t see this guy. And even here, there is a bit of a dimension to this club. Juventus goes and picks up, on loan, making Southampton pay the wages for this player, who was playing in the Championship, and the general manager of Southampton says ‘now he’s there, he learns something, and in June he comes back to us’. That’s the size of Juventus today.”
Recent reports from Italy had already claimed that Juventus won’t want to pay the full amount to get Alcaraz bought from Southampton, and in case his playing time there is limited, there should be no doubt the Old Lady will ask for a discount indeed.
