Arsenal are still chasing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García after failing to sign him last summer.
On Thursday, AS stated there’s a good a chance for the 23-year-old to join the Gunners in the summer window. Later that day, Marca reported Barcelona are making moves to sign the player desired by Arsenal.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo mentions both Arsenal and Barcelona in a report that focuses on Bayer Leverkusen’s interest in García.
The Catalan club have gathered positive reports about the stopper, but it seems difficult for them to sign him.
Mundo state the team ‘moving the most for him, along with Arsenal’, are the Bundesliga winners, who are very interested in acquiring the Spaniard’s services in the next window.
García’s contract lasts until 2028, and it includes a €25m release clause which will rise to €30m for last 15 days of the window.
The newspaper claims the Spaniard would find Bayer Leverkusen much more ‘favourable’ than Arsenal.
David Raya is the first-choice goalkeeper for Mikel Arteta at the Emirates and is likely to retain his place next season. Lukas Hradecky is the No.1 at the German club with Matěj Kovář as his backup.
Hradecky is 35 years old, and his contract lasts until 2026 while Kovář hasn’t full convinced Bayer Leverkusen. Therefore, Mundo indicate García could become the first choice at the German club sooner than at Arsenal.
